‘WRITE HERE, WRITE NOW!’ 2012

When matters of serious debate and discussion assume a flavour that is both contemplative yet not exclusively academic then what we have is a ‘WRITE HERE, WRITE NOW!’ This was the inter-collegiate literary and media fest conducted by M.E.S. College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Malleswaram on the 16th of February, 2012.

Shweta Venkatesh invokes the Divine through her scintillating Bharatanatyam performance.

Promoting the theme of ‘The Social Awakening’ which could only be conceived of as a happening not later or elsewhere but ‘right here, right now’, ‘WRITE HERE, WRITE NOW!’ in its second edition was an event to cherish! With events like Pic-n-speak, Product launch, Press release, Photography, Poetry translation and recitation, Street play, Poetry review, Cartooning, Editorial and Mock-press conference, ‘WRITE HERE, WRITE NOW!’ 2012 drew in enthused participants from more than 12 colleges from across Bangalore!

The Cheif Guest - Mr. G. N. Mohan, the Editor-In-Chief of Samaya TV

The highlight of the day’s programme was a talk on ‘Language and Media’ by Mr. G.N. Mohan- the Editor-In-Chief of Samaya TV and also the Chief Guest and the speaker for the day. He emphasized the need for an education system that was more hands-on than theoretical and that which was awake to the needs of the world around! The interactive session with the students that followed his brief talk was engaging with the students shooting a volley of questions that brought out certain issues in brighter light.

With its huge quadrangle, M.E.S. College played perfect host to the event ‘Street Play’ where various teams strived to create the airs of a rural street play without the aids of mikes! With the students of M.E.S. and those from the guest colleges watching from all around the actors, the scene was one to watch out for! The event ‘Product Launch’ saw RJ Pavitra of Radio One as the judge and some thoughtful ideas on the topic ‘BMTC introduces services for the physically-challenged’.

The Principal, Prof. Geetha Srinivasan with a proud winner!

The event ‘Mock Press Conference’ was one event which had all the action and fun in huge doses! Assuming various roles based on topics such as the cast of ‘Dirty Picture’, the ‘porngate’ of Vidhana Soudha and Dhoni on his team’s recent debacle, the participants drew rounds of applause and laughter from the packed auditorium! Mrs. Rekha Rai, the distinguished faculty of the Dept. of English was best suited to don the mantle as the judge with her witty questions and game-ending remarks and gave the event an added flair!
The brilliant team of M.S. Ramiah who were top contenders for the rolling trophy.

By the end of the day, after superb performances by each one of them, the participants wanted the show to go on and the winner of the ‘WRITE HERE, WRITE NOW!’ Overall Rolling Trophy’ was declared.
